RNA formed in 1984 in
reaction to a planned SRO 800-seat Triplex which
loomed for the Blessed Sacrament playground area
on Roosevelt Way NE. Its construction was
prevented by the efforts of Hal Hemke, Cathy
Palmer, Judith Wirth, Phil Theil and Karen
Schmidt, the founding members of the group.
Members are drawn from our local
community and are people who feel strongly about
having involvement with their neighbors and
environment. All residents, businesses,
institutions and organizations within our
boundaries are welcome to participate in RNA’s
meetings, committees and activities.
Our neighborhood’s issues include protecting
our property from burglary, combating our
over-crowded parking situation, monitoring land
development, abandoned vehicles, disaster
preparedness, ADU dwellings, Sound Transit,
taking back our parks and beautifying our
neighborhood. The RNA is a non-partisan
organization.
RNA’s constituency is the
University District neighborhood between I-5 and
Brooklyn Ave NE (east-west), and NE 45th St and
NE Ravenna Blvd (north-south).
RNA meetings are open to all. During the
year, there are quarterly General membership
meetings and eight Board meetings scheduled. As
a rule, we meet monthly on the first Wednesday.
Meeting locations for 2006 are generally at the
YMCA. Members receive quarterly newsletters.
